DIVISION 8 - DOORS AND WINDOWS SECTION 8470 - REVOLVING DOORS PART I - GENERAL 1.01 DESCRIPTION This section covers the furnishing and installation of a complete (specify automatic or power assist) revolving door assembly which has been fabricated and tested for proper operation at the factory. It includes enclosure walls, ceiling, access panel, manual locks, glass, operator, control, wings; all as required for installation as shown and specified. 1.02 RELATED WORK COVERED BY OTHER APPLICABLE SECTIONS OF THE SPECIFICATION SHALL INCLUDE: Preparation of Opening Floor Preparation Electrical Supply and Termination (120 VAC, 20 AMP) Dedicated Circuit Caulking by Door Installer 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE Manufacturer shall provide documented reliability testing and list of present users, and have been in the Revolving Door business for at least five (5) years. 1.04 SUBMITTAL A. PRODUCT DATA: Submit manufacturer's standard literature and details for proof of compliance with specifications. B. SHOP DRAWINGS: Submit shop drawings of revolving door, including sections of all typical members, dimensioned plans and evaluations, indicating anchors and all other components, as required. 1.05 WARRANTY Unit to be warranted against defective material and workmanship for a one-year period from the date of installation. PART II - PRODUCT 2.01 MANUFACTURER Revolving door shall be as indicated on plans, and as manufactured by Horton Automatics, a division of the Overhead Door Corporation. 2.02 EQUIPMENT A. DOOR UNITS: (Specify desired type) Automatic Revolving Door Power Assist Revolving Door In three or four wing construction B. OPERATOR: The operator shall be supplied complete with 1/4 HP high torque, DC, UL recognized motor, gear box, and control panel. Control panel shall provide speed control. The double seal, corrosion-proof, cast iron gear case shall contain case hardened (60Rc) helical gears in oil bath lubrication. The operator shall allow manual operation when power is removed to serve as a safety precaution to prevent entrapment. A 1 1/2" solid steel shaft shall serve as a main linkage to connect the operator to the revolving door. Select 1 or 2 to specify desired operation. 1. AUTOMATIC DOOR a. A microwave Motion Detector shall be placed at the entrance to the revolving door to detect someone approaching the door. This actuation shall cause the door to revolve at the rate of 4-8 RPM (adjustable) for one complete turn after the actuating signal is removed, then stop and quarter point. b. A momentary contact switch with 1" round push button shall be placed at the entrance to the door. The switch mounting plate shall bear the Handicap Logo and read "PUSH BUTTON TO SLOW DOOR". Pushing this button will cause the door to revolve at 2-3 RPM for a selected amount of time. An optional voice annunciator will say "DOOR IN SLOW SPEED, DO NOT PUSH." 2. POWER ASSIST Pushing the door shall turn on the operator and revolve the door at the rate of 4-8 RPM for one turn. Any subsequent pushing on the door will reinitiate one revolution. 2.03 SAFETY A. BACK PRESSURE SENSING CIRCUIT: Should the door wings encounter an obstacle at any point in rotation that creates a back pressure on the door of 5-10 pounds (adjustable), the door shall go into the EMERGENCY STOP MODE. The door will stop for four (4) seconds. During this time the door can be moved forward or backwards. It will then restart at reduced speed and gradually accelerate to normal speed. B. ENTRAPMENT PROTECTION: The operator shall revert to manual operation when power is off to prevent entrapment. 2.04 FINISH Specify: 204R1 Clear, 313R1 Dark Bronze, Other 2.05 ENCLOSURE The enclosure shall be constructed so that proper clearance shall be maintained and weather seal assured. 2.06 DOOR CONSTRUCTION The 1 3/4" wide Narrow stile (2 3/8") or Medium stile (3 3/4") door wings to be constructed of aluminum extrusions of 6063T5 with 1/8" minimum wall thickness to ensure frame rigidity and high impact resistance. Horizontal rails on door wings shall have sloped stops. An intermediate muntin bar is to be furnished on each wing for safety and division of glass. 2.07 CANOPY Provide canopy in segmented or round design to match contour of the enclosure. Canopy sides to be furnished in opaque panel. Optional: Provide aluminum sheets, 0.090 minimum thickness, for roof panel. 2.08 HARDWARE/WEATHERSTRIPPING Provide locks with five pin cylinders and concealed bolts on two door wings. A sweep shall be affixed to each wing to provide adequate weatherstripping. 2.09 CEILING LIGHTS (Optional) Furnish two flush ceiling lights. 2.10 GLASS A. ROUND DOOR: Wings: 1/4" tempered Walls: 7/16" laminated safety glass B. SEGMENTED DOOR: Wings/Drum: 1/4" tempered float glass. System will accommodate up to 1" glazing in the wings and drum. PART III - EXECUTION 3.01 INSPECTION Installer must examine the areas and conditions under which automatic revolving doors are to be installed and notify the contractor in writing of conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not proceed with the work until all unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to the installer. 3.02 INSTALLATION A. Comply with manufacturer's specifications and recommendations. B. Set units plumb, level and true to line, without warp or rack of frames or doors. Anchor securely in place. Isolate aluminum and other corrodible materials from sources of electrolytic action at points of contact. C. Install complete door operator system in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, including drive mechanism, controls and control wings. 3.03 ADJUST AND CLEAN A. Adjust operator and controls for optimum condition and safety. Lubricate operating equipment. B. Clean aluminum surfaces promptly after installation, exercising care to avoid damage of the protective coating (if any). C. Advise contractor of protective treatment and other precautions required through the remainder of the construction period, to ensure that revolving doors will be without damage or deterioration (other than normal weathering) at the time of acceptance.
